Well, I can finally say that I was able to surprise Danny really good! I have never been able to pull this off; either i am a dead giveaway, or he is just suspicious and detects things...But not this time! I wanted to do something special for his birthday, since he is turning the big three-oh! We have been wanting to get a Wii for a long time, so I decided this would be the perfect opportunity! So, based on that special gift, I just started brainstorming ideas...After lots of feedback and ideas from Gail, we conspired a staged "Family Night." We told Danny we were having a special Family Night this last Friday and it would be themed on the Amazing Race. We actually had a spiritual thought and everything, about how we can liken the Race to our Families and Life in general, and we can make it Amazing by working together to achieve a common goal. Anyways, keeping the end "prize" in mind, we developed a handful of clues which took our teams (Danny was paired with Logan, who did a great job of covering!) to 3 different locations...the first location was a bowling alley, the second a baseball field, and the third, a tennis court. This was to represent the Wii Sports games, and Danny actually did not catch on until after the big surprise. So then, after the tennis court, they were given a clue that led them to DeAnne and Alan's front porch, where the "prize" was, along with a final clue. It was absolutely hilarious!! Danny had no clue whatsoever and was very competitive (imagine that!)...so when he got to the last clue and prize, thinking he must be way ahead of everyone else, he read the clue, which hinted to the party inside, then opened the Wii. He did this goofy little dance of excitement, then came inside to see all of us...SURPRISE!! waiting there, including all of the people who were supposed to be racing against him. He looked around in shock, as he realized that it was all staged. We all had a good laugh and it was priceless for Danny to be the one (finally) to be surprised!!
Check out this AMAZING CAKE!!! Lindsay took on this project, and did an incredible job- she is such a creative and talented baker! Thank you for this perfect cake, Lindz! I couldn't have dreamed up a better one!!
